This research seeks to ensure that transparent economic models are available to policy makers to understand the potential impacts of new interventions (whether clinician based, technology based, or medication based) on the incidence of diabetes and prevention of complications of diabetes.
After this session, participants will be able to:
- Gain an appreciation of data linkage, and how historical data can be used to build models to predict future events.
- Gain an appreciation of the steps involved in building a economic models that are used for deciding whether therapies are adopted by the PBS.
- See an application of combining epidemiology of big data with economics to create an open source tool for assessing the relative benefits of different interventions in preventing diabetes complications.
